About the M2M Team

Chris Horton, Dave Connolly, Eddie McKnight, Elliot Ross, Jonny Leslie, Mark Ruby, Ryan Barber, Simon Barrett and Phil McMahon are the M2M Irish End to End team. Here’s a little more information about each of us:

King of the Mountains Chris Horton, a choirboy from Selby, Yorkshire, credits his ability on long climbs to the many years he spent working at altitude in The Prince of Wales Colliery, Knottingly. Chris holds the current world speed record for road cycling. In 2011 he sustained forward motion on a bike without becoming unseated whilst travelling at 1.3km/hour.

Dave Patrick Connolly is an Irish from Ireland. His family were potato farmers and Dave developed a love of cycling during his weekly cycle trip to the Big Town to take the family spuds to market. Dave is our driver, interpreter and cultural guide on our trip through the Emerald Isle.

Eddie "The Eagle" McKnight at 67 years of age is the oldest cyclist ever to tackle the Irish End to End, born in Glasgow just before the Battle of Culloden he has the voice of an eagle and a full repertoire of Irish folksongs.

Elliot "Big Fella" Ross at 28 stone is the largest in the group by some 3oz. Half man, half gorilla, it's Elliot who'll have responsibility for ensuring that the stout doesn't run out. This is Elliot's second challenge of 2012. In January he successfully finished a 27 oz steak at a local Brewster’s.

Jonny "Pretty Boy" Leslie is cycling the End to End despite a major speech impediment that renders his ramblings totally unintelligible to everyone outside the North East of England. Jonny a local pin up in his hometown of Whitley Bay has given up being in Westlife tribute band "Pastlife" so he can be with the boys in Ireland. Thanks Jonny.

For Mark Ruby this is the challenge of a lifetime, that’s if you don’t count the Heaton Moor donut eating competition of 2007. Often mistaken for Thor Hushovd the great Norwegian cyclist, Mark is actually a Danish which is like a Norwegian but with the hard bits removed.

Super speedy Ryan Barber is so young that you can’t think of him without getting a mental image of him in footie pyjamas.
He’s hoping to get his stabilisers removed in time for his first trip abroad. Ryan’s back is attracting interest from companies wishing to post adverts on it for The Tour, as his back is all anyone sees of the speedy little bugger!

Iron Man Simon Barrett cycles to make others look foolish. His love of "The Lycra" is folklore and his love of other things … is quite confidential and shouldn’t really be talked about over the internet where all and sundry can view it and make comment!

Phil McMahon … I just count myself lucky to be on the bus with these athletes! It'd be great to have you follow our trip and post the odd comment to keep our spirits up. In return we promise to do our very best to raise some money for a very deserving cause.
